Dow Gardens The creativity of Herbert H. Dow is still revealed to all those who visit Dow Gardens.
1809 Eastman Ave. The Dow Gardens were started in 1899 by Herbert Dow, founder of The Dow Chemical Company. The Gardens, originally developed on eight acres of flat, sandy land, provided a creative outlet for Herbert Dow’s interest in agriculture and design. He created gardens, ponds, and hills according to a simple philosophy still followed to this day: “Never reveal the gardens’ whole beauty at first glance.” Thanks to the dedicated guidance of the Dow family, the Gardens have grown to 110 acres. The Gardens are unique and beautiful in each season. While one visit is impressive, the gardens are best experienced by repetitive visits to experience the seasonal changes. The gardens come alive in April and May with color from the extensive plant collection. The landscape opens with blooms from magnolias, forsythia, spring bulbs, and more! The colorful flower show continues in summer with a profusion of blooms throughout the gardens. Enjoy the fall foliage in early autumn and the textures of the trees as the leaves fall away. Cooler temperatures make the gardens a perfect destination for an autumn walk. Dow Gardens is open year round with a spectacular winter landscape. In December, the warm conservatory is filled with many varieties of Poinsettias. Have more information about Dow Gardens mailed to you - FREE
