The Bay County Historical Society has been preserving the unique and rich history of Bay County, Michigan since 1919. The Society is located in the former National Guard Armory, in Bay City, Michigan. The Society holds extensive archives and artifacts, some of which date back to the Pioneer Society organized in the 1870s, which preserved information about the settlement of the area. The Pioneer Society became inactive as the original pioneer members died in the late 1800s. Started in 1990, the River of Time Living History Encampment is a free educational annual event for people of all ages. Visit historical camps, taste old-time kettle korn & root beer, witness skirmishes and shop at Sutlers’ Row. See live reenactments featuring Native Americans, Colonial, French and Indian, Civil War, Mexican War, the Wild West, World War I & World War II & Vietnam time periods. The encampment draws re-enactors from around the Midwest, who come to dress and live the roles of folks from a more simplistic, if sometimes more difficult times. In the outdoor setting of Veterans Memorial Park on the bank of the Saginaw River, it showcases the history of North America, Michigan and Bay County.
